big toe goes numb

Question
When I jog or walk for more than about 5 minutes at a time, my big toe goes numb.  Does this mean that I am wearing the wrong type of running shoes?  Would a different type of running shoe help the problem?  I am going to buy a new pair of running shoes, and I want to make sure that I get the right type.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Answer
Hi Nicole

First, try walking without any shoes on. If your toe goes numb again, it is not the shoes. Two things could cause it, then; 1. poor circulation. 2. Injury. Your toe shuts down the pain. Again, if this happens with the shoes off, either 1 or 2, make an appointment with a podiatrist to see what the problem is.

Good luck. I hope everything is ok with you. Hopefully!, The problem is the shoes, not the toe.
