QuestionIs surgery the best treatment for tight calf muscles? I have been told that surgery to loosen the calf muscles will help my foot problems. I have not seen this solution on the internet. I sure do not want to have the surgery if that is not the best treatment. Thank you for your help and advise.
AnswerGlenda,
In my opinion, surgery would be the last option for tight calf muscles. Consider orthotic devices/arch supports, physical therapy and stretching before surgery.
For people with severe problems, lengthening of the Achilles tendon or of the muscles may be a treatment. It depends on the severity of your condition.
Several procedures for lengthening include Achilles tendon lengthening and Gastrocnemius recession.
Hope all goes well.
