QuestionI've scheduled an appointment for cryosurgery to treat my neuroma. The Dr. has stated that it will be a little more difficult due to the fact that I've had a prior surgery due to scar tissue. Is the risk of complications greater for me since I've had a prior surgery? Is the recovery time going to be longer? Also, the Dr. that I've scheduled the procedure with has not performed cryosurgery on anyone that has had a prior surgery - should this be a concern?
I appreciate your insight!
AnswerNancy,
I have found that the success is not related to prior surgery necessarily. However, technique is important and some people will require several procedures to get relief from the neuroma pain. I have not found that scar tissue is really an issue or that there is more difficulty with treatment. What matters is where the source of the pain is located and properely treating that area. There are different approaches to treating a neuroma. Each Dr. develops personal techniques for better success.
Success with foot Cryosurgery is related to the proper diagnosis and proper technique especially with prior surgery. I wouldn't be concerned with this being the first surgery performed on someone with prior surgery. The technique is similar. Feel free to have your Dr. contact me if he/she wishes to discuss your surgery.
As far as risks and complications, I see no diffrence with or without prior surgery. However, the procedure is not risk free and does not work for everyone. So please be aware of risks and complications.
Hope all goes well. Happy New Year.
