foot pain, should I get it looked at?

Question
I participated in an overnight cancer walk over a week ago at which I foolishly
walked the first few hours in flip flops.  Since that night I have had horrible pain
in my left foot.  It's sore on the top of my foot and feels like there's a dry
rubberband stretching from my ankle to my big toe.  Is this something I should
get looked at or will it clear up on it's own?  Thanks!

Answer
Hi Jaimie,

It is fairly common to do a long walk even with good shoes and have a stress fracture.  So, I would see a Podiatrist for an x-ray and exam.  Other possible causes include soft tissue/tendon injury or stress which can be very painful when walking.

Even with soft tissue injury you may want to get on some anti-inflammatories and possibly some type of compression.  You may also ice the area of pain.

Hope that helps.
