Pain in bones on top of foot when walking
9/21 15:08:00

Question
When I walk I have a lot of pain in the bones on top of my foot.  I had been running about 5 nights a week before the pain began.  It only hurts when walking and there is no swelling or any pain in the muscle.  All the pain is in the bones on the top.  So that I can walk, I have been putting all my weight on the outside of my foot and then I don't feel pain.  But to walk normally is too painful.

Answer
Hi Leanne,

It sounds like you have either strained the tendons on the top of the foot or you may have some arthritis in the bones. Since you a runner, you have likely strained the tendons and ligaments of the foot.  This may be caused by lacing your shoes too tightly or just over stressing the area.  Typically you will need to ease up for a while on the running and ice the area.  Also, stretching is important.
Many of the runners that I see require a custom arch support  to better align the foot.

Your best bet would be to see a Podiatrist for an evaluation.  Then you can get a more concrete answer and some treatment.

Goof Luck.
