Question
I have been doing some in home walking exercises via videos the past few weeks. I do them barefoot. Am now having a sharp stabbing like pain running horizontally across my right foot directly behind my toes and down into the right side somewhat. This only happens when I try and walk. I've been taking Aleve and applying Aspercreme. I'm wondering if applying ice would be better?

Hi Terri,

Ice is generally good for inflammation of foot tendons and any soft tissue strain of the foot.  It sounds like you have improper foot support leading to strain.  I would wear a supportive athletic shoe and see if your problems resolve.

In some cases you may have an irritated nerve and that would be a cause of the sharp pains across the foot.

If these simple measures don't help, I would see a Podiatrist for an evaluation.  There are many other possible problems including a stress fracture.
