Question
a good friend of mine had a fall from a 3 story building, both his feet was crushed and ankles. he was in a wheel chair for about 6 months, he is in constant pain and under aqlot of pain medication which was just recently discovered was affectin his liver, his dr have talked about fusing  he arleady wears a special brace, i am very worried because of the medication he is on its morphine and some other is there anything that can be done the dr's he sees now are workman comp drs.

Hi Debi,

Often with such a severe injury the only relief is achieved by fusing the joints.  This will stop joint motion of the foot and ankle which is causing the pain.  If he hasn't already done so, he would benefit from physical therapy.  I do a procedure known as Cryosurgery.  This a pain management and relief technique that involves freezing of the nerves.  There are no narcotics involved.  That may be a consideration.

It really depends on the severity of the problem.  He should find another Dr for another opinion.
