QuestionYesterday I noticed that my left big toe was numb on the right side and the top. I thought that it would wear off in a bit so I shook it a little and walked on it. It is not painful but feels weird and worries me. Today it is the same as yesterday. Is this normal to have numbness for this long and do I need to be seen or is it okay to wait until more symptoms present? I am 27 years old if that matters.
AnswerHi Roslayn.
Numbness in the big toe is usually from rubbing of the shoe which may be narrow or from heels. Also, this is common in runners from the shoe rubbing against the side of the foot.
Numbness in itself is not a problem unless there is associated redness or a deformity.
I would check your shoes to make sure they are not tight or worn excessively.
If you find that your problem becomes worse and is associated with pain or redness, I would see a Podiatrist.
