Question
Hello,

About a year ago, I broke the bone on the outside middle of my right foot.  Recently, at the site of the break, the area of my foot is sticking way out, like a lump.  I am limping severely and have a lot of pain.  Ice and anti-inflammatory don't seem to help and the lump is still there.

Answer
Hi Donna,

I'm assuming that you are talking about the small toe side of your foot.  You likely broke the base of the fifth metatarsal bone.  What can happen after this injury is an enlargement of bone may form.  This also may become painful from rupture of the tendon or inflammation of the soft tissue.

I would see a Podiatrist and get x-rays.  You likely have a new problem and it is also possible that you did not heal properely.

Also consider physical therapy.  Ask your Dr.

Sincerely,
