blisters on toes

Question
I walk 2 to 3 miles every other day at fast pace.  Since I have started walking several months ago, I have blisters on the end of my second toe on both feet.  I have bought a size bigger walking shoe and bought different socks, but continue to have these blisters just on my second toe on both feet.  I have no health issues and recently had labs drawn and all levels are normal.  Any suggestions?

Answer
Hi Polly,

Toe blisters are common with walking and running.  This occurs typically when the toe is trying to grasp the ground and pulls downward against the shoe. This may be due to along toe or tightening of the tendon.

So your shoe length may not be the issue.

I would see a Podiatrist for treatment options.  The solution may simply involve padding beneath the toe or could require surgery.
