Sharp pain in left foot that comes and goes...
9/21 15:07:14

Question
Throughout the entire day(11-13-07), I've been having a sharp pain run through my left foot.  It starts at what feels like the top joint of the foot and it only lasts for a few seconds but when it does, it causes me to stop walking.  It comes and goes and probably has today about 7 times.  I don't know what I should do.  I should probably see my doctor but I'd like to hear your opinion first.

Answer
Hi Melissa,

If this foot pain has only been for a day, I would give it some time.  It may be an irritated nerve or a sprained tendon that will resolve.  Typically rest and ice would help.  Avoid strenuous activities.  If the area worsens or continues I would see a podiatrist in the next week or two.

Sincerely,
