QuestionHi Dr. Katz,
I've had bilateral PF for approximately 2 1/2 years. I had cryosurgery performed on my right foot in Sept. The numbness lasted for about three weeks. My left foot is another story. It has been over twelve weeks since the procedure, and there is residual numbness in a small area of my foot. How long can this take to resolve? Is there anything I can do?
Thank You,
Tracy Q.
AnswerHi Tracy,
When you have cryosurgery there is death of the nerve to the heel. So it is normal to have numbness. As the nerve regrows, you will likely get sensation back. The numbness can be permanent or may return at about the 6 month timeframe. I would consider physical therapy and orthotic devices. I also believe that foot and Achilles stretches are very important.
