QuestionHi,
Up until 8 months ago I was jogging daily about 5 to 6 miles. I properly stretched and wore really good shoes. I have been running for about 15 years. Out of the blue my hell started hurting really bad, to the touch. I quit running and sought medical help. I went to an orthotic who made inserts for my shoes. I went to an orthopeodic who said I just need rest. I have been to a podiatrist who confirmed bone spurs on my heel and gave me lifts and Rx for Motrin and suggested I start walking. I explained to him that running was my out my get away. I have 4 children and I could run any where, anytime without having to worry about child care and hours like in a gym. I have rested, I have treated the injuries and my husband who is a physical therapist has gone over multiple stretching techniques. The bottom line is...my feet still hurt and I just want to know if I am kidding myself that I'll ever get back to running/jogging? Not to mention since I have stopped running my weight has gone up considerably. Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated.
AnswerHi Ann,
I would see a podiatrist and consider some cortisone injections. I would also have your current orthotic devices evaluated by a podiatrist. In many cases your heel pain will resolve and you can get back to running.
There are also other treatments that include cryosurgery, shockwave therapy and prolotherapy.
You just need to get to the right dr and seek second opinions if unsure.
