QuestionI started having problems with my foot about 6 years ago, they were minor at first, then worsened gradually, since I am a Physical Therapist, I diagnosed myself with Morton's Neuroma, and tried many different conservative solution that worked for a while, I then went to a podiatrist for Cortisone shots, he also verified that I had Morton's Neuroma, I took three cortisone shots, the first one worked as magic for two weeks, then teh following 2 shots were useless. but, all in all, eventhough I made adjustments to my lifestyle, I remained functional untill last month.
The strangest thing happened, I now have no pain, I wish I have the old pain, now, after ambulating for about a mile or so with my rigid rocker bottom shoes, or after ambulating 50 feet with sandals or anything other than my rigid rocker bottom shoe, I get a very strange sensation, its like a big air bubble inside my foot, and then, my foot becomes restless, my ankle starts making involantary movements, well, not really involuntary movements, if I looked at my ankle and concentrated, it will move the way my brains tells it to, but, while ambulating, my ankle starts moving all over the place, I end up finding myself externally rotating my hip so that I can drag my foot sideways which releive the symptoms a bit. The rule I learned from my long experience is that, to never allow extention of the metatarsophalangeal joints when walking, this stimulates this empty sensation within 50 steps- litterally.
My questions is: since the pain isn't a problem, will the crotherapy help with this strange symptoms? should I seek meds for Restless leg syndrome? I am getting clinically depressed because of this problem, I no longer can hike or socialize with my very active friends.
AnswerHi Haya,
Cryosurgery is used for the destruction of sensory nerves in the feet. So if you have no actual pain you would likely not get relief. I would consider a pair of orthotic devices and try seeing a neurologist to check if there are other problems.
