Question
I have plantar fascitis and have had it for many years. I've had shots and pt and custom orthotics, night splints, meds, tried it all. The orthotics that I successfully wore for 5 years wore out last June and I cannot get them duplicated. Last Jan. 08 tried superfeet(green) out of default and a new pair of New Balance sneakers (1062 running) and am determined to make them both work. I had a shot in my heal in Feb and was pain free until June. The sneakers either wore out or my shot wore out. I am soooo frustrated but am determined to make this work. I read an ad in an Adirondack magazine about a new procedure called cryosurgery performed by a podiatrist in Amsterdam, NY. Do you know if this is safe and effective? Can I end up worse than before? I live in the Buffalo, NY area. Do you have any advice? Thank you so much. PS I am a very active 51 yr. old women who works out 4x per week. Just got back from a backpacking trip in the Adirondack mts. I am not overweight but do have high arches. It is only my left foot. I work in a high school and am on my feet all day and walk on hard floors. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Nancy Bergum

Answer
Hi Nancy,

Cryosurgery for heel pain is an excellent option.  See my website for extensive information.

There are no guarantees with any treatment.  However, cryosurgery has some of the lowest complication rates when compared to other treatments.  It is possible to get worse but rare and much more likely with traditional surgery.

Cryosurgery is my area of expertise.  I have developed CryoMax, a procedure that uses advanced power color doppler guidance for increased accuracy.  So I would certainly have the procedure done this way.

Good Luck.
