Question
My Cut
Hi,
I have a terrible scar on my left ankle. Its near my anterior talofibular ligament... in the "squishy" part. On July 4th my mother accidently knocked the lid off of the back of the toilet. The lid hit the toilet bowl broke in two. One of the pieces' sharp edge deeply gashed my ankle. The E.R. doctor said it was a little more than half an inch deep. I got 11 stitches. I got my stitches out 3 weeks later and the wound was still open. And noe whenever my scar is simply tapped it sends excruciating pain through my foot and leg, and my foot is numb since many nerves were cut when the ordeal happened. And the skin on my left foot is also very sensitive to touch. I can't run, stomp, or swim without experiencing this horrible pain. Please can you give me any information as to why this is happening and how I can fix it?
Thanks,
Courtney
AnswerHi Courtney,
With such a deep cut in your ankle, you have likely developed nerve damage. In addition, there may be deep scar tissue that is trapping the nerve and causing pain. Nerve pain can be sharp and shooting in nature and can also cause burning and radiating sensation. You may be a good candidate for CryoMax, a form a nerve freezing or cryosurgery. Cryosurgery breaks down nerve and scar tissue to allow pain relief and better healing. See my cryosurgery site below. You can have cortisone injections but be careful because they can cause thinning and discoloration of the skin.
