cyst in big toe

Question
About a year ago my husband (55yrs.old) went to a podiatrist about an ingrown toe nail. He was in a lot of pain. The Dr. removed the nail and applied a solution that would prohibit the nail from growing back at all. About 3months later a cyst developed in that toe. He had never had problems prior to the nail removal The Dr. cut out the cyst. 6months later it returned. We went to our general practitioner. He cut out the cyst. It has been 8months and the cyst is back. We don't want his toe cut on every 6-8 months. What should we do!!!

Answer
Hi Holly,

I would see another podiatrist for an evaluation.  In some cases, the cyst may be associated with the toe joint and a more aggressive procedure may need to be performed.  It is also very important to get an x-ray to make sure there is not some type of bone problem.  In some cases an MRI would be helpful.
