QuestionAbout 3 months ago my big toe on my right foot became swollen and had a tingling feeling in it. It was super sore...I thought it may be gout, but I later read that gout effects the joint. This swelling and tingling was in the fat part of the toe. I went to the doctor (regular, not a podiatrist) because I wanted to be sure it was not diabetes. It was not...but since then the pain has pretty much gone away unless I wear heals and sometimes the toe (toenail part) seems to be sitting up and pressing against the top of any shoe. It now has a numbish feeling and is still quite larger than my left big toe. Feels like some nerve damage or something on the side next to the second toe...any answers?
AnswerHi Joni,
I would see a podiatrist. You may have a toe fracture that is not healing. The swelling may press the nerve and cause pain or numbness in the toes. It is possible that you had gout and that should be checked if necessary.
