Question
Hello,
I wrote to you yesterday but I have more information now.  My regular doctor got my x-ray results and here is what the report says "I just got x-ray results from my regular doctor and have an appointment with a podiatrist next week.  Here is what the report says.  Occult fracture of the base of the right third toe proximal phalanx medial aspect."  I know occult means hard to see but on my x-ray it is circled where the fracture is so they must have seen something that shows a fracture.  What does this report mean exactly and what treatment, if any, is usually done? In cases like this, is a walking boot or short anke boot of some sort needed? Thanks.

Answer
Hi Michelle,

I'm not sure why they used the word occult??

You will likely need to be immobilized in a surgical shoes or walking boot. Decreased activity will help.
