Question
My 11 year old daughter is an advanced dancer. She has been dancing for 8 years.  Last April she broke her rt navicular bone while dancing then she broke her left Cubios bone two months later.  She healed well.  On Saturday July 11 she broke her right Cuneiform.  Is this common with dance moves?  She knew exactly when she broke her bones each time? All of her friends are doing the same moves and they don't break their bones.  I will say that she does give 150% when she dances.  Are some people more prone to breaking their bones and why? Thank you for your help.

Answer
This it not normal at all!You are lucky that these fractures have healed without any apparent complications. Please visit a sports podiatrist or orthopedist who works with dancers. The shoes should be evaluated for additional support and or padding. Possibly orthotics may help also.Ask her doctor for a routine physical and describe her problem--some lab tests may also be in order to rule out any other problems.
I also notice in my own practice that children OVERTRAIN. Her coach should not be giving her dance moves that she may not be ready for. She does not need to give 150% if it produces injuries. She can make this judgement as an adult if the sport is income producing.
hope this helps
