QuestionI am a nurse and have worked on my feet for long shifts for years without any foot problems. Within the last six months I've developed severe pain in both my feet, seems to feel like it's coming from my tendons or bones, my entire foot, worse after resting, I can hardly walk. No swelling, redness but some pain in my left big toe diagnosed as arthritis. I wear good shoes with adequate cushioning and support (same kind I've worn my whole career). I just tried to flex my foot and had excruciating pain. I'm healthy, no diabetes, slightly overweight, don't wear heels, Help
AnswerYou didn't mention your age.Sometimes vague arthritic pains can be secondary to approaching menopause. Sometimes hormone therapy helps.
An xray would be in order and a good podiatrist should order it and read it.The xray should be weight bearing---if the person who orders the xrya doesn't order weight bearing-walk out-they don't have the knowledge to help you. Xray could rule out heel spur or other possible arthritic disorder-but the weight bearing tells of mechanical problems-like low or high arch.
If you can't move your big toe due to arthritis, then your foot may be compensating by extra movement.
Could even be arthritis of the lower back
Your symptoms are too vague without a hands on diagnosis
Sorry I couldn't help more
