QuestionQUESTION: I had neuroma sx about 3 weeks ago to my left foot 2nd and 3rd interspace. Since then I have developed sharp electrical shock type pains thru the bottom of my foot and thru 2-3 of my toes. The pain is quite severe. The pain has continued to get worse instead of better. I am also having burning, like my foot is on fire, on the bottom of my foot. I am still wearing the post-op shoe even though my dr said I could switch to my tennis shoes. The tennis shoes make it worse. I had the neuromas removed from the bottom of my foot and think I may have made a bad mistake.
Please help
Is this normal and part of the healing process?
ANSWER: Although 3 weeks is not a long time and surgeries of the foot may be sore for up to 4-6 weeks-This pain should not be normal.
You should be evaluated for physical therapy by your doctor and some form of soft insert to take pressure of the surgical ares while walking.
Perhaps you are on your feet too long and too soon following the surgery
The foot should feel its best first thing in the morning-with the exception of some possible stiffness and the pain should be getting worse as you stand.
If your doctor is empathetic and you like what they say-hang in there for a few more weeks.
If not then seek a second opinion from someone who evaluates surgeries.
We are second opinion specialists
Hope this helps

QUESTION: I had my follow up appt and my doc states although the pain is not normal he is not too concerned. I am having sharp electrical pains thru the bottom of my foot along with the 3rd and 4th digit. The pain continues to get worse and I am very worried.
Should I get more aggressive with my doctor?
Thanks, Kelly
AnswerYou should not need to be aggressive
You should have a good relationship with your doctor
