QuestionI have been experiencing pain in the inside of my ankle under the bone for about a year and a half now, constantly being dismissed by general doctors. I have extremely flat feet at 23 years old. Have been wearing custom made orthotics for the past 4 years. Recently I went to the podiatrist and he said that I have posterior tibial tendonitis. I have since then stopped running, has now been about 7 weeks and just been riding the stationary bike. It has not improved at all, so about 2 weeks ago I had a cortisone injection which has progressed to making it worse. I do stand on my feet and walk around constantly all day long. I can get no relief even with ibuprofen and ice. The lack of improvement is really making me frustrated and confused. What should I do next?
AnswerTry physical therapy and an ankle brace
You could try complete immobilization for 3 weeks with a removal cast.
If that doesn't work, have an evaluation for a possible tendon tear or insertion problem-like an accessory ossicle.
Sometimes after an injection it gets worse before it gets better.
If your podiatrist seems caring then he/she should have time with you to review your options-including surgical correction if indicated. Make an informed decision
