Question
My daughter is 11 years old. She was born missing the middle three toe nails on each foot. The Big toe and pinkie toe nails tend to curl over the end of her toe and grow into her skin and are of an odd shape. The middle three toes are also webbed. I of course was concerned when I discovered this but her pediatrician was and is not worried and reassured me it was nothing. I was not concerned until this year when she was diagnosed with cataracts in both eyes (most likely congenital). She also has dental issues, her baby teeth won't come out on their own and all of her teeth are spread very far apart.I also noticed that her toes don't seem to be growing at the same rate as her foot. Could this be a sign of something more complex? Could the cataracts and the toes be signs of a larger issue ? Should we see a podiatrist?

Answer
Hi Melissa,

The foot and toe problems could be secondary to other syndromes. There could be other issues that would lead to these problems.  In addition, there may be other unrealized problems.  I would see if your pediatrician can run some genetic testing or refer you to another physician for testing and perhaps a referral to a neurologist is necessary.
