QuestionDr. Katz,
About 5 years ago I developed a MN pain in my left fore foot. Since then, I have had 5 surgeries to correct the problem. (2 of them included breaking and re-setting my toes)
My last surgery was in December of 08, but I still have a considerable amount of pain between my 3rd and 4th toes. The problem has persisted so long that my body alignment and gait have changed and may now be preventing my recovery. (Kind of a catch 22)
I am currently seeing a physical therapist, chiropractic\ Active reflex specialist and acupuncturist to correct my foot, spine and atrophy issues. However, I feel that the foot pain is still the source of my troubles and I am researching the cryosurgery option. (Alcohol injections did not work for me)
Since you appear to be one of the experts in this technique I was hoping you could help me determine if I would benefit from this procedure and\or possibly refer me to an expert in the northern California area. I live near San Francisco and I am looking for a doctor that is experienced in this new treatment. My current POD he lost my confidence.
I am willing to travel to Tampa if required. I am beyond desperate to find a solution.
Thank you,
Erik
AnswerHi Erik,
I'm a bit confused on why you have had five surgeries? Were they all for the same area of the foot. Typically, I wound not consider breaking bones a good treatment for a neuroma. I question whether the diagnosis is correct??? Based on my uncertainty it would be difficult to know whether you would be a candidate for cryosurgery. If you do indeed have a neuroma you could be a candidate for cryosurgery. If you have had the nerve removed then scar tissue and stump neuroma may be an issue. So cryosurgery may be more difficult.
I'm sure there are cryosurgeons in your area, however I do not know them personally and I am not aware of their skills.
