QuestionQUESTION: I have had mortons neuromas in both feet for a few years. I have had a series of 7 alcohol injections and one cortisone with no relief. I would like to try the cryosurgery. Is there anyone in Atlanta that does this? Thanks
ANSWER: HI Rick,
I am unaware of any cryosurgeons in Georgia and there are none listed on this site.

I often have people from Georgia come to Tampa for treatment for that reason.

QUESTION: Thank you for your reply Dr. Katz. I am surprised there are no podiatrists in a major city such as Atlanta that do this surgery. I am also surprised at the lack of information on the web about long term success rate of this procedure since it has been around since 2002. In fact there is relatively little information at all. I can only find remarks from patients that have recently had the surgery. This sounds like a wonderful fix for Morton's neuroma, but I am still a little skeptical because of this. Can you explain? Thanks.
AnswerHi Rick,
There have been few studies done because the process is very costly. Many of the major companies did not have the money to sponsor studies and several of them are bankrupt now. You will rarely find a doctor that will pay for a study out of pocket.
The long term success is certainly as good or better than the traditional procedure. So you have nothing to lose by using cryosurgery as an option before traditional surgery. You will find plenty of studies and internet comments regarding the complications of traditional surgery.
I tell my patients this and I tell them that results can vary and long-term success can vary. Most patients still prefer to go the cryosurgery route first.
Hope that helps.
Sincerely,
