QuestionHi there George,
I was going through your profile and you seem like the best person I could possibly seek assistance from online.
I am currently having problems with my 5th toe, my 5th toe underlaps my 4th toe and points inwards. The metatarsal seems straight to a point but when it hits the toe the phalanges points left . If you can visualize the side of my foot it sticks out when I left my toes up more than my other foot, perhaps the bone pushes the side of the foot outwards slightly almost like a tailors bunion but there is no skin or bump protuding or anything. I hope I am making since, if I need to clarify any points please do ask me to further or better explain myself. My right foot has trouble fitting shoes and it has only been an issue as of late which is extremely frustrating. Basically the 5th metatarsal and phalanges doesn't seem as straight as my left good foot. I am a athlete so its important to me my feet. When my foot is flat on the ground and I lift my foot the side of my foot slightly moves outwards like the bone is pushing the foot slightly onwards or something.
Thanks in advance George :)...
AnswerThis Chicago Podiatrist says.....
This is pretty straight forward.
You have what is known as an under-lapping toe.
What happens is over time the tendons that make the toe move up and down now are pulling the toe to the side-this is progressive and should be evaluated for possible repair.
You may also have a bunionette component. See our website at AnkleNFoot.com for additional info on bunionettes or Tailor's Bunion and foot and ankle surgery.
You can try tapping straight or try a toe splint. See our website store at AnkleNFoot.com for examples of toe splints. You can also try shoe-stretch spray.
As you can see there are a few conservative options-but if they are unsuccessful see a Board Certified Podiatrist for a surgical consult.
We are specialists in this kind of foot and ankle surgery
Hope this helps!
Good Luck Again My Friend!
