QuestionI have developed a protruding bone on the top of both my feet. It's not on the side or at the base of any toe. This has developed over the last six months. I have heel spurs, which don't bother me now. I have had a neuroma (spelling?) on the bottom of my right foot which has been treated. Besides the bones that are now protruding I feel like another neuroma is developing on my left foot between the little toe and the next one. It is very sore for me to walk. I can't bend my toes back anymore without pain.
Thank you,
Lori
AnswerThis Chicago & Elmhurst Podiatrist says......
Dear Lori,
The protruding bone sounds like a spur of the midfoot.
The same things that cause the spurs on your heels, for example increased weight or activity,or some forms of arthritis, can cause spurs of the middle of the foot.
Try to see a Podiatrist Board Certified in Orthopedics. Sometimes orthotics/orthoses may relieve the pain with some of the spurs-including the heels.Sometimes physical therapy can help or even an injection.
Sometimes metatarsalgia can mimic a neuroma. Metatarsalgia is caused by excess pressure on certain joints in the ball of the foot. The inability to move toes sounds more like metatarsalgia than a neuroma. See AnkleNFoot.com for additional info on symptoms and causes of pain at the ball of the foot-which gives more detail on neuromas and metatarsalgia.
Hope this helps!
Good Luck My Friend!
