Question
I have been getting these sharp,stabbing pains on the top, right side, of my right foot.I don't know what brings them on but they last just a few seconds and come on frequently. Its almost like a spasm but much sharper.  I was recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Could this be a contributing factor?

Dear Michael,

If your diabetes is not under control(serum glucose of less than 125mg/dlthen it most certainly be a contributing factor-but usually symptoms are on both feet. Sounds more like an irritation of the joints or tendons ion that area. I would assume that there was a weight increase with the diabetes. That could produce the symptoms you are describing. Seek a shoe that gives you support and do stretches and warm-ups of the area in the foot that pains you.
