Bleeding of toenails on cutting.

Question
Hi There !  My partner told me that his ex-wife's toenails used to actually bleed when she cut them. I assured him that this is impossible unless she cut them too low and damaged the nail-bed or if they were ingrowing. Have you ever heard of anyone else with this problem or could she have been an alien as I suspect ? !! (Serious question to settle an argument )
Thanks for your time
Lee

Answer
This Chicago, South Loop & Elmhurst Podiatrist says.......

Dear Lee,

What happens is that a very small piece of the skin "sticks" to the middle part of the nail and unfortunately gets cut when the nails are trimmed. In these cases the nails should be trimmed by a Podiatrist or they should be let to grow a little bit to prevent cutting of the skin.  Cutting the skin is asking for problems--no matter how long it's been happening without one. For example-an infection.

Hope This Helps
Good Luck!
