QuestionHi i recenty had a gastroncemus slide operation on my right leg. this was due to an accident i had in work 2 tonnes of steel landed on my foot i had crush injuries and got a metal plate in my foot and lost movement in my toes. my toes crawled up so i had another operation 6 months down the line to release them which failed then i started walking on the outside of my foot after 2 years my surgeon decided it my ankle movement was tight so decided to perform the gastroncemus slide. Its been 12 weeks since i had the op i am still waking on the outside of my my ankle is moving more freely but i get alot of pain down the one side of my leg now and i get bad sweling on bottom of my leg where the scare is if i where a pair of socks any ideas what it could be thanks

Dear Mr Evans,
The pain and swelling you are feeling is probably the area where the gastrocnemieus release was done.Perhaps some of the other muscles have tightened up also. Ask for physical therapy-which should help with both possible issues.
For some help with the pain, wear a shoe that has a bit of a heel as opposed to flats or no shoes. Avoid barefoot walking. Even your house slippers should have a little bit of a heel-perhaps some sandals. This will take pressure off the area. Massage and stretch the calf at night and when you wake up for about 15 minutes after a warm-hot bath or shower.Skip the sock and wrap the leg from the ankle up to below the knee with an ace wrap during the day for support.
