burning/tender/swollen ankle

Question
About a year ago every morning my ankle would pop every step I took. It didn't hurt at all. It no longer pops like it used to however, right around the outer ankle bone , especially right below/towards the front, it is (always) very tender to the touch and I get this extreme burning sensation periodically throughout the day (normally when I'm standing or sitting, rarely when walking). I am 5'8" 160. I am on my feet ALL DAY for work (constantly walking at a pretty good pace). Any ideas on what is causing this or what I can do to ease the burning sensation (other than quitting my job)???

Answer
This Chicago, South Loop & Elmhurst Podiatric Orthopedist & Surgeon of AnklenfootCenters.com says.......

Dear Tommy,

The popping may have been one of the peroneal tendons sliding behind the ankle bone. Perhaps on of them has suffered an injury-this may produce the burning sensation.
Sitting will compress the nerves in the lowest area of your spine-this may produce the burning sensation.
There is a small muscle in that area of the foot & ankle. Irritation of this muscle may produce the burning sensation.
If it bothers you-please see your Board Certified Podiatrist for a hands on diagnosis.
Hope this helps!

Good Luck!
