Question
I had a modified kinder 11 months ago. I had ongoing pain. Three different podiatrists said different things. One said that my foot alignment is continuing to put stress on the repaired tendon. I went to the Hospital for Special Surgery and saw an ortho who ONLY does foot and ankle surgery with a special interest in posterior tibial disfunction. He took new X-rays. After seeing the films he also said that the reason the kinder failed is that the alignment is off. He is doing a posterior calcaneal osteomy, spring ligament repair, flexor transfer and Achilles lengthening. The surgery was scheduled for August. I got a call today. They saw the mri results and have me scheduled for surgery on Monday. Both my posterior tibial tendon and spring ligament are severely degenerated. The doctor is concerned that I am at risk for a complete rupture if we wait till august.

I will be non weight bearing 8 weeks then in a cast or boot for two to three months. My head is spinning.

Have you ever come across someone who had a successful ptt repair ending up with such an extremely degenerated tendon 11 months later?

Answer
I have not come across that situation, but everyone is unique and unfortunately every surgery does not have a 100% perfect result.  It sounds like you've had several opinions at this point and I would go forward with their recommendation.  I'm sure if they moved up the surgery, it was with good reason.  I wish you the best...
