Question
I have twisted my ankle a few times and I know that I have been told that I have alot of scar tissue built up. I am on my feet 12 to 14 hours a day, I have been having alot of problems when I wake up in the morning putting weight on my foot sends pain that can only be described as ....bad, on a scale of 1 to 10 I am talking an 8. About a week ago I have been having a strange burning.... it feels like hot water being poured over the top of my foot and then goes away it happens if I am on my foot or not. My foot is not hot to the touch .. what could this be ? should I got to see the doctor about this or will it pass ?
Thanks,
Nikki in Oklahoma

Answer
Hi Nikki,

Following ankle injuries you often get scar tissue and damage to some of the nerves.  When the nerves get damaged, burning is the type of pain that you will feel.  I would see a podiatrist for an exam.  It may pass but there may be more happening.  You may need an MRI.  Also, the nerve that crosses the ankle is often injured and that results in top of the foot burning.  I perform a procedure known as cryosurgery which can help the nerve pain.
