sharp heel/ankle pain

Question
Every evening as I sit down to relax for the night, I get very sharp pains in my foot.  They tend to be on the outside of my left foot, between my ankle and the ground. It will sometimes be at the back of my foot, at about the same height.  I do have plantar fasciitis, but this pain is not on the bottom of my foot.  I may have restless leg syndrome (working on if that is a diagnosis or not) and don't know if that is a cause for this pain??

Answer
Dear Alisa,

This Chicago, South Loop & Elmhurst Podiatric Doc of AnklenfootCenters.com says.......

Please do stretching exercises of your arches & calves in the morning and evening-for a minimum of 3 weeks. A main cause of plantar fasciitis is a tight Achilles tendon(calf).
On a separate note-daily stretching is good for all parts of the body.
For restless leg syndrome-check the meds you are on and make sure you are properly hydrated.
Plantar fasciitis require proper treatment and sometimes orthotics/orthoses for resolution. Treat it now so it does not become a chronic problem
If these symptoms continue to bother you-see a Board Certified Podiatrist in Foot & Ankle Orthopedics for an accurate diagnosis and treatment.
Hope this Helps &
Good Luck!
