QuestionHi Dr. Katz,
I am hoping you can help me out here. I have a bulge at the base of my foot (where it meets the bottom of my leg, in the front, it is at the ankle but in the very front of my leg). I have had it for a while now. However recently I have been having excruciating ankle pain with lots of clicking - it almost feels like it needs to click back into place. The pain is where the bulge is, but also deep in the ankle and all around. I am very overweight and notice the pain increases immensely with weight bearing. I have recently begun walking around a track to try to lose weight (!) and I did twist the ankle last week while walking. I am not sure if the pain is at all related to the bulge but I am getting concerned. I have very limited medical coverage and I know an x-ray would not be covered at this point (and I Do not have the money to pay out of pocket). Any ideas on what this bulge might be and if the pain is from that?
Thank you so much for your time.
Cyndi
AnswerHi Cyndi,
After an ankle injury there are several possibilities. You could have a fracture, a sprain or fluid leaking from the ankle joint. I cannot give you much advise and think it is best to see a doctor and have an x-ray. The problem could be severe and not seeking treatment could cause more problems.
