Questionhi, my two month old was born with her pinly toe overlapping onto the next toe. her grandomother and greatgrandmother had it into adulthood. neither me or my husband have it. it looks a bit worse from even last month. what can i do to straighten out the toe. is it too late now that she is two months? i am gonna start taping it to the next toe. and maybe massaging it. please give me any tips on taping and for how long and massaging it. i took her to the chiropractor and doctor and they didn't seem to know much about it. also how likely do you think it is that it will be corrected and how long to do this therapy for? thank you, gia
AnswerI know it's hard for a parent to hear this but...leave it alone. It's likely due to a congenital shortening in the metatarsal bone before it. While it can catch up as she develops, considering the family history it probably will not. Taping will not help. If she's not in pain, leave it alone.
As she grows, she may elect to have it corrected surgically, but let it be her choice based on if it is causing her pain.
All the best,
