Plantar fasciitis, missing joints from toes

Question
I have severe plantar fasciitis in both feet and have done for the past
18months. I have seen 14 different people about them and recently had
an examination from a chiropodist who said I only have two joints in each
toe. She said she has never seen this before. It causes me to grip the
floor with my toes when I stand up. Do you know anything about this and
could it be causing/affecting plantar fasciitis?

Answer
Many people have the middle and distal phalanges fused, but it's not common for it to be in all toes at once.  It is unlikely that this is causing your plantar fasciitis.  If it does contribute, an orthotic should help to neutralize those forces.  Having seen 14 doctors already, I suspect you already have gone down that avenue.

Not sure what modalities you have at your disposal in the UK, but consider use of a cold laser or Shockwave therapy to help solve the plantar fasciitis.

All the best,
Andrew Schneider, DPM
