QuestionHello. My name is Holly. I was born with upwards pointing toenails. My mom also has this and I believe my maternal grandmother also has it. In addition to this, my toenails are very thick and fairly strong and always have been I believe. I have a number of foot problems but I don't think any of them are related to my toenails. My toenails do not curve upwards, they angle upwards. What causes this? Is there a name for this condition? I am guessing it is hereditary since it runs on the maternal side of my family, right? Is it anything that I need to be worried about? Thanks!
AnswerYou're right, it is likely hereditary. There really isn't a name for it...perhaps onychogryphosis or onycauxis both of which define a nail deformity. No, other than cosmetic, there realy is nothing to be worried about.
All the best,
