QuestionI am about 25 weeks post op ptt and spring ligament repair, tendon transfer, calcaneal and cotton osteotomy and achillese tendon lengthening. Prior to the surgery, even wearing a brace, I would experience sharp shooting pains along the ptt and arch within the first 7 or 8 steps I would take. My ptt was partially ruptured and the spring ligament stretched out. I am now back at work full time (no brace needed) and am able to walk pretty much pain free except for an occasional twinge. All in all, I am thrilled with my recovery. I do have a question. I am able to move all of my toes, however my toes and top of my foot feel tight and I have reduced sensation in the toes. I am able to move my big toe, both up and down, however the range of motion is reduced as compared to the big toe on the other foot. Is this considered normal at this point in recovery? Will the range of motion allways be diminished slighly due to the tendon transfer and cotton osteotomy? I am starting pt next week but was wondering whether I should expect some of my symptoms to persist.
Thank you for your feedback
AnswerThis Chicago, South Loop & Elmhurst Orthopedic Podiatrist of AnklenfootCenters.com says.......
Dear Staci
Please talk to your surgeon regarding these concerns.
Most of your improvement should be seen around this time-unless there were complications.
The range of motion of the big toe may be decreased due to the other flatfoot procedures-But optimally, you should be able to move your big toe the required range of motion for pain free gait.
The reduced sensation may improve up to one year post surgery.
The stiffness may be due to post-op immobilization.
Physical therapy may improve range of motion-but your surgeon will know better.
Hope This Helps!
and
Good Luck!
