QuestionHelp. I have been having severe foot pain following an accident 1.5 yrs ago. I have seen several people and each time I get a different diagnosis. Originally, pain management and my PT thought it was originating in my spine but an MRI didn't reveal anything. I did get steroid injections in my spine. the second day after the injections, my foot felt a little better but within days it was worse. My pain started as mild in the back of my foot. Now it has progressed to so severe that I cannot walk. It is most intense on the outside of my foot when I put any sort of pressure on it (stand up) or when I brush that area against an object (accidentally hit something). My foot is even slightly deforming- I have a new bump on the outside about halfway between my ankle and my pinky toe. My current chiropractor who specializes in extremity pain believes that I have soft tissue damage in my foot, that the connective tissue is pulling off the bone and that the nerves are just floating around (no longer attached) so they are hitting bones and causing shooting pain. Can this be possible? What do you think it is? Who should I see? What kind of treatment options do I have? I am in so much pain. I have 2 kids under the age of 3 and I can barely care for them. Help. No one knows what is going on.
AnswerThis Chicago, South Loop & Elmhurst Orthopedic Podiatrist of AnklenfootCenters.com says.......
Dear Christine
For your painful foot-Go see a Board Certified Podiatrist. That is your bet for an accurate diagnosis. They are the specialists in extremity pain and have substantially more lower extremity training than all others.Even more than a Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon-unless they did a Foot & Ankle Fellowship.
Unfortunately, the explanation given by your Chiropractor has no scientific basis. Nerves and bones can't "float around."
That said, I'm sure a well trained podiatrist can give you an accurate diagnosis, with a few treatment options. Bring your MRIs and reports.

Good Luck!
