Question
Good Afternoon!

Back in June of 2009 I had a 1200 pound horse step on my foot (I was unfortunately wearing just running shoes at the time).  I had an x-ray done with 48 hours but the doctor's figured it was too swollen to properly show anything.  They wanted me to follow up with a bone scan but at the time we were undergoing some fertility treatments so we decided to hold off.

Well needless to say; I had the baby back in July 2010 and my foot has progressively gotten worse.  There is still a black/blue/purple mark on the top of the foot where the horse landed.  It throbs at night and has bouts of numbness.  As of late; when I go to stand or walk it feels very unstable and sends pain up my ankle and through my toes.  It's actually starting to hurt more now then the day it happened?

I saw my doctor yesterday and she isn't sure what to think of this all.  She has recommended I follow up with a physiotherapist and then they can determine the next steps.  I'm concerned physio might aggravate it more and with the new baby I'm nervous about being in more pain.

Can you advise or provide thoughts on the injury and what the next steps I should be taking are?

Thanks so much!

Answer
This Chicago, South Loop & Elmhurst Orthopedic Podiatrist of AnklenfootCenters.com says.......

Dear Candace,

You are absolutely right regarding your foot pain!
Do not let the therapist touch your foot. The therapist is not a Foot Doctor!
Obviously yo or just a u have a problem with your foot that should not be treated blindly.
You need to get a second opinion from a Podiatrist who is Board Certified in Foot Surgery or Orthopedics. Let the podiatrist determine if you need an MRI or foot x-ray.
Try to get your original x-ray copies and not the report and then see a podiatrist.

Hope This Helps!
and
Good Luck!
