Questiondear Dr Tsatsos,
I am writing to you from Greece, where experts of podiatry do not exist.
I am 26 years old and I have flat feet. Although I do use orthotics and I had never twisted my ankle, I had an increasing ankle pain and visited the doctor, who diagnosed an ankle sprain.
I should mention I take ballet lessons for 2 years, but the orthopedic doctor I visited for the ankle strain believes that ballet is not suitable for adult flat feet, since I can't put my orthotics into ballet shoes.
However, I have read that ballet could help people with flat feet.
What's your opinion? How could I strengthen my flat feet? Is there any helpful excercise for this issue?
I look forward to hearing from you.
I honestly feel sorry for my English
Sincerely
Chrysa

Dear Chrysa,
Let's talk about flat feet.
If you are able to get up on your toes-then that is good.
Signomi poo sas apantao arga. Then xeree tee leiee o yatros sas.
1. Make sure that you are not overweight.
2. Do any exercises that make you get on your toes-this makes the arch strong.
3. If the ballet does not hurt-then it ay be good for you.
4. If you feel you need support in your ballet shoes-you can get thin orthotics made of fiberglass or special plastic.
5. Avoid totally flat shoes and try to wear a shoe with a minimum of a one inch heel(that helps raise the arch)
6. Send me a digital copy of your x-rays
Hope This Helps
Good Luck !!!
