Question
I am a 26 year old female that injured my left ankle in February of 2011 while I was skiing. I was originally diagnosed with a tendon injury in March when I went to an ortho/ankle specialist because I was in a lot of pain and unable to walk without a limp; the tendon on the top of my left foot towards the crease with the calf.  I was put in an air cast for 4 months and did some physical therapy.  I started getting 憌eaned?out of my boot in June and into a smaller brace type.  I was feeling better and I tried to run but was in immediate pain.  I went back to my ankle doctor and thought there was some other underlying issue because I should not be in this much pain.  I had an MRI done and it showed a fracture of the navicular bone.  This is directly from the MRI impression I received: 揃one marrow edema within the dorsal-lateral aspect of the navicular with a suspected subtle component of non-displaced subchondral macrotrabecular fracture at the talonavicular joint. Mild edema involving the pericapsular soft tissues at the dorsal aspect of the talonavicular joint. Moderate sized posterior subtalar joint effusion.?br>
Ok so now it is almost November, I am still in the boot and have another MRI scheduled on Nov. 1. I am still in pain and cannot walk around without the boot because the pain is worse; I have tried.  I want to know what I should ask my doctor to do if I am still in pain and this aircast has not done anything for me.  I so elevate and ice, but I thought the pain should be at least gone, but it still hurts and is the same pain I expressed before.

Any advice as to what I should do or what I should address with my doctor.

Answer
This Chicago Podiatrist, Elmhurst Podiatrist & South Loop Podiatrist says.......

Dear Milica,
For your ankle pain----- I agree-Nine months is a long time
Get your records-x-rays & MRI & seek a second opinion from a Board Certified Podiatrist in Ankle Orthopedics or Surgery.
A Board Certified Podiatrist in Ankle Orthopedics or Surgery submits 75 surgical cases to be certified in  foot & or ankle.
A Board Certified Orthopedist may submit at most 12 foot & ankle cases to be certified
An Orthopedist who does a Fellowship in Foot & Ankle Surgery would be equivallent to a good Board Certified Podiatrist.
I suspect a hidden injury that is not being seen on your tests.
Good Luck
Hope This Helps

We are close to both Chicago airports & are Experts in Ankle Injuries.
I have been skiing for 40 years.
