Question
toenail
Hello-
Just to give a bit background--my dad already has toenail fungus--and has had it for 20+ years. I never caught it before.
Recently, one of my toenails (middle toe) shows a thickening on one of its sides (I attached a picture), and it looks white under the light (picture looks yellower--b/c of the lighting). The pointer, big toe also has a whitish hue on the side as well--but no thickening.
Could this be a result of wearing heels--causing pressure on my toes (I do feel pain after wearing my heels--which I wear extensively)? Or does it look like a fungal infection that I should get treated?
Thanks for your help!

Dear Grace,
The toenail has fungus. Toenail fungus is an opportunistic organism. Toenail fungus is usually present as spores, may start as athlete's foot and then get under the toenail. Also, if tight shoes cause nail pressure, which may produce mild damage, then the fungus may attack the toenail.
Fungus loves warmth, moisture and absence of light---which we achieve at various levels according to our socks, shoe gear, and amount of time worn daily.
We are currently offering laser treatment with alternatives for toenail fungus.
