lump on the foot

Question
I have this hard lump on the top outer right side of my right foot. I appeared suddenly. I have had it looked at by a general medical practioner and was told there was nothing that could be done about it.  There is a picture on this site that is titled bump on the foot with spreading toes.  My toes are not spreading I just have a pea size or similar hard lump on the top of my foot. It only causes pain when I have to wear my shoes for lengthy periods of time.  As the lengthy wearing of shoes is required for work. I take my shoes off right when I get home from work but the lump area is so sore that it is even uncomfortable to even rest my foot on my bed. The practioner that I seen said that the lump is hard and solid not liquid filled. I currently do not have health insurance due loss of employment and am unable to see a podiatrist. Any advice as to get some relief from the pressure or to help relieve the soreness.  Thank you for any help you may give.

Answer
Hi Leigh,

This could be a ganglion cyst.  They are fluid filled but feel solid due to the fluid pressure.  They are often drained of their fluid or removed. They are typically harmless but I would still see a podiatrist to be certain.  An online diagnosis is impossible.

There are no great home remedies except padding around the cyst to take away shoe pressure and use ice for pain.

If this grows rapidly then you must see a podiatrist.
