Question
July 2012 I was diagnosed with a metatarsal stress fracture,I wore an air cast boot for 6 weeks, on removal I was given a cortisone injection to the outer left foot. The pain continued so another 4 weeks later I was given another Ortisone injection to the top ankle bone of the same foot.
Where the first injection went I still to this day have a bad bruising effect, the pain shoots across the top of my foot and expands up to the calf. My doctor has taken blood samples, x rays and MRI nothing I am told looks abnormal. I am as,ing is it possible the injection has damaged nearby bone or my tendons?
I add I was never advised of possible side effects. I do hope this is not damage from the injection but what can it be.My mobility is lesser now than when I had the metatarsal fracture,The problem with my foot originated from over use not an injury. I am not diabetic and neither over weight

This is a difficult case.  I cannot determine whether the cortisone injection truly is the cause of these problems.  If you're having shooting pain across the top of the foot and extending up the leg, that sound like nerve pain.  The injection could have irritated a nerve but this almost always resolves over a few days.

Why was the cortisone injection given in the first place if you were being treated for a metatarsal stress fracture?  Did the doctor give you an injection in the area of the fractured bone or was it somewhere else?
