Question
my husband was mowing the lawn and the lawnmower threw a piece of glass and cut his leg, he went to med express and was told he had a piece of glass down next to the bone on his tibia, and that a orthopedic would have to remove it, can he do this in his office or will my husband have to have surgery?   thanks very much

Answer
Dear Terry,

This Orthopedic Chicago Podiatrist located in West Loop 60661,Roscoe Village 60618, Ukranian Village 60622, Elmhurst 60126 & Bartlett 60103 says...
For glass or other foreign bodies in the foot or ankle-The AnkleNFootCenters can usually remove these under local anesthesia in a sterile setting-like a minor procedure room. Sometimes minimal sedation can be given by mouth-to relieve anxiety. If the piece of glass is hidden, deep or hard to get to-then it will be done in outpatient surgery-which the doctors at AnkleNFootCenters routinely do. Ask for outpatient surgery & not hospital surgery.

Hope this helps & Good Luck!
