QuestionI just visited a chiropractor for the first time - the first diagnosis was the beginnings of sciatica; I cannot recall the medical term for the next issue: the chiropractor explained to me that my cervical discs are out of place, C3 and C4, that normally my neck area would show the discs in a curve on an x-ray, but mine are straight up and down.
Can you please help with the term I am looking for, along with information about this condition?
Thank you
AnswerMelissa,
With the info given this sounds like your Chiro was trying to explain that you have lost the curve in your neck and as a result this is putting excessive stress in the C3-C4 area causing damage to your cervical discs in that area, you will need an MRI to truly know if they are displaced which is termed a cervical disc herniation.
As far as the term you are looking for I would recommend you ask your Chiropractor as he gave you the report there is not enough information given to know.
Spinal Curve is important because this allows for the spinal joints (zygopophyseal joints) to evenly distribute weight throughout your spine. Loss of spinal curvature will result in areas of the spine that move too much and others that move to little. The areas that move to little will degenerate or as they call it in the south spine rot. The most common areas are in the lower neck and lower back.
I hope this helps,
Have a great New Year!
