QuestionMy chiropractor says that there's no such thing as a subluxation. Is that true? He also said that the straight chiropractic theory has never been proven. Is he accurate?
AnswerDear Scott,
Thank you for your question.
There are those who reject the existence of vertebral subluxations. There was a time when many thought the world to be flat or the Earth to be the center of the universe. Sometimes, tragically, it is dogma that causes these views to be held so firmly, other times, innocently, it is simply a lack of understanding.
I have no idea what part(s) of the reasoning your chiropractor rejects or what reasoning he/she favors. It is important for you to know, though, that there are two fundamentally different schools of thought in chiropractic that have existed for many years, a division in the profession often resulting in squabble and great wastes of time and other resources, and I suspect there will continue to be these differences beyond my lifetime. It is not my goal to convert the other practitioners to my viewpoint if they choose otherwise, nor is it my desire to continue wasting time and resources on proving which viewpoint is better. They are different, just as blue and green are different colors, not one right and the other wrong.
I hope this helps you in understanding the chiropractic profession.
Sincerely,
James W. Healey, DC
